Dear Kris,
While people usually understand that the Lewisville ISD Education Foundation supports the students and teachers of LISD, most don't realize what that means geographically.
Unlike many school districts where the district serves and supports the city schools of its namesake, LISD spreads across 127 square miles and covers 13 communities: Lewisville, Flower Mound, Highland Village, Double Oak, The Colony, Copper Canyon, Hebron, and portions of Carrollton, Plano, Frisco, Grapevine, Coppell, and Argyle. (Click to view LISD's boundary map)
And the Lewisville ISD Education Foundation works to support each of them! Although at times a bit daunting, the LISD community of parents and local business strengthens and supports LEF's efforts for excellence.
With Regard, Connie Pelphrey, Executive Director
P.S. Our offices will be closed during LISD's Spring Break, March 16-20.

So Where Does All the Money Go?. . . It goes back into the students and teachers of LISD, and we consider that a solid investment in the future.
In 2008, the Lewisville ISD Education Foundation awarded $143,221 (see image below) to a total of 207 individuals in the form of grants, scholarships, and special awards (Click for a detailed breakdown of LEF award disbursements).
And so why do we do it? The answer is simple . . . to provide an avenue of support above and beyond traditional tax base funding for the students and teachers of LISD. As they strive for excellence, LEF is there to help!
Through the generous support of our donors, LEF is able to satisfy our mission statement to enrich the quality of public education in the thirteen communities served by the Lewisville Independent School District by being a vehicle for securing private funding benefiting LISD teachers and students.

LEF has joined the Facebook revolution!
Will you be our friend?
Social networking sites were once the domain of the young, but Facebook is one such site that has captured the time and attention of both the young and old. In fact, Facebook finds growing appeal among large numbers of 30- and 40-somethings.
Not only does Facebook offer a forum for networking and reconnecting but users can also show support for their personal "causes."
We hope you will join us on Facebook and support the cause of LEF!

LEF Goes Behind the Scenes:
An interview with LEF multi-grant recipient, Teresa Clyde, from Hedrick Elementary
LISD is blessed with amazing educators. They have a passion for kids and learning that is infectious, and Teresa Clyde from Hedrick Elementary is no exception! Those of us at LEF have had the privilege to know Teresa for quite some time because she consistently writes for (and wins) one of the LEF Teacher Grants awards each year.
With a new round of grant funding just around the corner (June 5), we sat down with Teresa to ask her a few questions about her inspiration for grant ideas, as well as her thoughts on the LEF grant process.
Mary (M): What was the amount of the grant for which you were most recently awarded, and why did you decide to apply?
Teresa (T): I received $963.10 from LEF to create a "sensory garden." Because students, particularly those "at-risk", sometimes struggle to make connections to the curriculum, I wanted to use the idea of a garden as a way to uniquely present the material by engaging their senses. Creating this connection to the world around them allows them to internalize science concepts and learning in a more meaningful way.
M: Sometimes teachers don't apply because they think the process is too time-consuming. What do you think about that?
T: Dreaming about the possibilities is time consuming; actually applying for the funding is simple. I keep my ideas in a notebook and it probably takes me a couple of hours to write the grant. Hedrick Elementary has had several LEF grant recipients over the past few years, and we have seen the positive results of these grants in action. In addition, our principal, Esteva Bargo, is a great source of encouragement and support. She celebrates our successes and maintains a bulletin board that highlights the grants on our campus. It is exciting not only for the recipient teachers but also for the children!
M: Would you share some words of wisdom and encouragement with other teachers regarding the LEF Teacher grants?
T: Writing a LEF grant is so easy! Each campus has a LEF Campus Ambassador that can give you more information or point you in the right direction. And the grant process doesn't have to be a solo project. You can also work in teams! We have had brainstorming sessions that generate great ideas and excitement. One year, four different project teams evolved from a brainstorming session. Each team submitted proposal and all four received a grant! It's easy. You have nothing to lose but everything to gain!
